LOWER BACK STRAIN
Causes of Lower Back Strain
- Improper Form: Rounding the back during exercises like deadlifts or squats.

Symptoms of Lower Back Strain
- Pain: Sharp or aching pain in the lower back.

Knee Injuries
Common Gym Related Knee Injuries Include:
- Patellar Tendinopathy: Irritation of the tendon connecting the kneecap to the shinbone.

Muscle Strains

Mechanism of Injury:

Tendonitis/Tendinopathy
Common Gym Related Tendinopathies Include:
- Patellar Tendinopathy: Irritation of the tendon connecting the kneecap to the shinbone.
- Achilles Tendinopathy: Overuse injury of the Achilles tendon, common in runners.
- Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy: Irritation and microtears of the shoulder tendons, common in overhead athletes or weightlifters.
Causes of Tendinopathy
- Overuse: Repetitive stress without sufficient recovery, common in activities like running or lifting.
- Poor Biomechanics: Incorrect movement patterns placing excessive strain on tendons.
- Weak Supporting Muscles: Imbalances or weakness in muscles surrounding the affected tendon.
Symptoms of Tendinopathy
- Pain: Aching or burning pain, especially during or after activity.
- Stiffness: Increased stiffness in the tendon, often more noticeable in the morning.
- Swelling: Mild swelling or thickening around the affected tendon.
Joint Sprains
Common Joint Sprains in the gym
- Ankle Sprains: Tearing of ligaments around the ankle, common during running or jumping.
- Knee Sprains: Injuries to the knee ligaments (e.g., ACL, MCL) caused by sudden twists or impacts.
- Wrist Sprains: Damage to ligaments in the wrist, often from improper grip or falls during weightlifting.
Causes of Joint Sprains
- Sudden Twisting Movements: Quick changes in direction during exercises like lunges or jumps.
- Overstretching: Pushing a joint beyond its normal range of motion, often during flexibility or weight training.
- Poor Stability: Weak supporting muscles or improper technique leading to joint instability.
Symptoms of Joint Sprains
- Pain: Sharp pain at the site of the injured joint, especially during movement.
- Swelling: Swelling around the joint, sometimes accompanied by bruising.
- Limited Mobility: Difficulty moving the affected joint or bearing weight on it.
What to expect from your treatment at DG Health
DISCUSSION: Your practitioner will listen to your issues and you’ll set some gym-related goals together.
ASSESSMENT: Next, you’ll be guided through a range of tests that will help determine the cause of your issue. Where appropriate, this will include an assessment of the gym movements that are troubling you.
DIAGNOSIS: Your practitioner will give you a clear diagnosis and ensure that you have a full understanding of what caused it.
TREATMENT: A combination of hands on treatment and exercise prescription will be used to help alleviate your pain.
MANAGEMENT PLAN: Your practitioner will provide you with a copy of your management plan so you have a clear road to recovery. This may include a adjustments to your gym program if necessary.
